Connecticut city breaks record for world's largest pizza party

A Connecticut city dished out more than 9,000 slices of savory pie to more than 4,500 people to break the Guinness World Record for the largest pizza party.

Sept. 15 (UPI) -- A Connecticut city dished out more than 9,000 slices of savory pie to break the Guinness World Record for the largest pizza party.

The Taste of New Haven, which organizes multiple local events and tours, held the record attempt Friday at the New Haven Green.

Each participant was served two slices of pizza, and was required by Guinness World Records rules to finish them in a set amount of time.

The party ended up with an official total of 4,525 participants, breaking the record of 3,357 that was set by the Pizza World Champions in Tulsa, Okla., in 2023.

"New Haven has once again demonstrated its pizza supremacy, and why the Elm City is the pizza capital of the country and the world," New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said on social media. "With 4,525 pizza party participants, the love for pizza and New Haven was literally palpable and on clear display."
